Kosher Restaurants in Strasbourg - Kosher Food 2026

Last updated: August 2026

More than 15,000 Jews live in Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, and it is one of the most important communities in French Jewry.

The city currently has many synagogues, kosher shops and restaurants, as well as several ultra-Orthodox communities. Mainly in the “Contades” district, where there is a prominent Jewish concentration. Therefore it is the main point where you can get kosher food in Alsace. In Strasbourg there is even a mixture, partly natural (although it is controversial).

The fact that Strasbourg is close to the Black Forest is a wonderful solution for those observant Shabbat and kosher. You can stock up on kosher food on the spot and continue from there for a vacation in the Black Forest.

Tip: Shabbat observant are advised to plan a vacation in the Black Forest in such a way that it starts or ends on the weekend in Strasbourg.
On Shabbat it is much more complicated to manage in terms of prayers, Shabbat meals and more, so it is worth staying on Shabbat in a city with a Jewish community such as Strasbourg or Colmar. It is advisable to plan so that Shabbat is not in the middle of the trip, which would require a special trip and moving to an additional place to stay especially for Shabbat.
